Why Taiwan-specific matters
Most apps teach mainland Mandarin. In Taiwan, that gets you polite confusion.
- Trash is lèsè (垃圾), not lājì — and it comes with a musical truck.
- You ride a jīchē (機車), tap a Yōuyóu kǎ (悠遊卡), and tell the gas station jiǔwǔ jiāmǎn (九五加滿).
- "You're welcome" is búhuì (不會), goodbye is bàibài (拜拜), and your drink order needs bàn táng shǎo bīng (半糖少冰).
- Preschool parents live by the liánluò bù (聯絡簿) and the wáwa chē (娃娃車) — words no textbook teaches.
